The case background …
On Thursday, Sept. 11, Asbury Park police responded to a report of a shooting incident in the vicinity of the 100 block of Monmouth Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The first victim, identified as Tyshan Small, 37, was rushed to a local hospital where he would later be pronounced dead. The second victim was also transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department determined Jerod Jones, 32, of Neptune City, to be the individual responsible for the murder of Tyshan Small and the shooting of the other male victim. Jones remains a fugitive at this time.

The investigation also revealed that moments after the initial shooting by Jones, a second shots fired incident took place at the same location. The investigation resulted in Joseph being identified as the individual responsible for the second shooting. There were no injuries as a result of the second shooting.
Joseph was found and apprehended by Asbury Park police on Friday, Sept. 12, at which time he was found to be, and subsequently charged with, unlawful possession of a firearm.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of Jerod Jones is urged to contact MCPO Detective Aaron Shaw of the Major Crimes Bureau at 800-533-7443 or Asbury Park Police Department Detective Anthony Troublefield at 732-774-1300.
