In Memoriam: Rumson-Raised Red Bank Resident, Regina Cooke Clayton, 86

Rumson-raised Regina Cooke Clayton, more recently of Red Bank, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 86.

Born in Hoboken, Regina was the beloved daughter of the late Stephen and Ruth Cooke.

“At a young age, her family moved to Rumson, where she spent her childhood and formed many cherished memories. Above all else, Regina was devoted to her family.

“She shared 67 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, William Clayton, a testament to a lifetime of unwavering love, partnership, and commitment …

“Regina will be remembered for her kind heart, quiet strength, and the deep love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will continue through the generations of her family …

“Regina will be missed by all who knew and loved her.”

She is survived by: her loving husband, William Clayton; her son, William Clayton and his wife, Erin, of Rumson; her daughter, Lynn and her husband, Joe, of Freehold; her beloved grandchildren, Kyle, Brianna, Kevin, Mark, Kristen and her husband, John, Gayle and her husband, Todd, and Lesley and her husband, Travers; her twelve treasured great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, James France of Florida; many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a very special friend to the family, Eileen, who was loved as a second daughter.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of RCCA Little Silver and Homeside Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and kindness they provided to Regina during her final days.

A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701. Interment will be private.
