Longtime Rumson resident, Don J. Summa, passed away peacefully on Sept. 30. He was 95.
“He enjoyed sailing, swimming, bridge, playing the piano and listening to classical music. He was active during his career in the New York State Society of CPAs (including a term as President) and the American Institute of CPAs. After retirement, he was active with Monmouth Medical Center, including a term as chairman of the Board of Directors, Monmouth University, the Count Basie Theatre, and served as chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Central Jersey Blood Center, Inc.”

Born in Whitestone, N.Y. to the late Joseph and Louise (Rosa) Summa, Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Don was a graduate of Columbia University (BA, French) and Columbia School of Business (MA, Accounting). A CPA, he had a long and successful career as national tax partner at Arthur Young and Company (now Ernst & Young). He also taught at Columbia, Rutgers and Monmouth universities.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Helen, and sister, Marie Miller.
Don is survived by: two sons, Jeff Summa and his wife Margaret O’Shea, and Doug Summa and his wife Remy Kothe; and two grandsons, Charlie and James.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to The ALS Association. All funeral services are private.
