In Memoriam: Rumson-Raised RFH Grad Carolann Murphy Shary, 54

On behalf of my brother-in-law, Joe Shary, my brother, John Murphy, her nieces, Isa & Taylor Murphy and her nephew, Jack Murphy & myself, we are devastated to announce that our beautiful Carolann passed away.”

Rumson-raised Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) graduate, Carolann Murphy Shary, of Monmouth Beach, passed away on Tuesday, April. 4, surrounded by family. She was 54.

“Carolann was one of a kind. She was smart, funny, caring, sweet and she always had a smile on her face. She made you feel loved whenever you were in her presence.
We will miss her every day for the rest of our lives.”

Carolann grew up in Rumson and graduated from RFH. After high school, she graduated from Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT. 

After college, Carolann started her career working in nursing homes taking care of elderly patients. Carolann then advanced her career working for United HealthCare/Optimum, based out of New York City, as national director of Implementation for many years.

Recently retired, Carolann spent the past few years enjoying her time with her loving husband, Joe at her beautiful home in Monmouth Beach. Carolann was a longtime member of Monmouth Beach & Bath Tennis Club as well.

Carolann is predeceased by: her father, John C. Murphy; her mother, Dona E. Murphy; and her brother, Robert A. Murphy.

She leaves behind: “her amazing and loving husband,” Joseph Shary; her sister, Eleanor “TRISH” Murphy, her brother John C. Murphy and his life partner, Julie McGloin; her niece Taylor Murphy (Brodrick), who she raised in Monmouth Beach; her niece Isa Murphy; and nephew, Jack Murphy.

Please join the family Saturday, April 15, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. at John Day Funeral Home to pay your respects. In lieu of flowers, please conduct an act of kindness for a stranger. “This is something Carolann did and I know she would appreciate it greatly.”
