Red Bank resident Kenneth Furey passed away Feb. 8 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was 79.

Born in Highlands Aug. 11, 1945, Kenneth was raised in Queens, N.Y., but his family spent every summer in Highlands.

“After marrying Mary Ellen, the couple moved to Highlands, where they raised their two daughters Shannon and Tonya. He worked for more than 38 years as an operating engineer for Local 15 in New York. He was also a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Army from 1965 to 1967. He enjoyed gardening, model railroading, tending to his koi pond, and most of all, spending time with his dog, Bear.”

Kenneth is survived by: his wife, Mary Ellen; his two daughters, Tonya Johnson and Shannon Ballone and her husband, Joseph; four grandsons, Nicholas, Christopher, Kyle Ballone and Cody Johnson; several nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Pricilla, Richard, William, Patrick, Colleen, Danielle, Sabrina, and Robbie; and a sister-in-law, Janet Furey.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Austin and Margaret Furey; his four brothers, Daniel, John, Robert, Austin, and his sister, Marguerite; a nephew, Daniel; and a niece, Sharon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, from 3 to 7 p.m., at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pfleger. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
