Red Bank native and longtime resident, Dorothy Mazza Corson, more recently of Middletown, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 10. She was 80.
Born and raised in Red Bank, Dorothy graduated from Red Bank High School and then attended Asbury Park Business School. Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Garrett (Gary) in 1961, and recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. She then began working in the clerical and Army Community Services departments at Fort Monmouth, eventually as the Community Services director. Upon her retirement in 2003, she was awarded the Commander’s Award for Civilian Services as Chief of Army Community Services.
Daughter of the late Joseph J. and Tillie DiFiore Mazza, Dorothy is predeceased by her parents as well as her sister, Judith J. Woodward and brother-in-law, Charles K. Woodward Jr.
She is survived by: her husband, Garrett A. Corson; her son, Joseph Garrett Corson (wife Dawn); her daughter, Audra Marie Corson (wife Sheila); grandchildren, Rebecca (Becky), Joseph and Salvetore; niece, Debora Woodward Hemschoot, and nephews, Charles Brett Woodward (wife Alexandra), David Joseph Woodward (wife Jennifer); and seven great-nieces/nephews, and 11 great-great nieces/nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at Thompson Memorial Home.
