Longtime Shrewsbury resident J. Ronald “Ron” Doran passed away peacefully on Oct. 21. He was 84.
Born in Jersey City on Jan. 1, 1937, Ron was raised in Caldwell and Spring Lake. At Manasquan High School, he was the Best All Around Boy, an award given to the best male athlete. He attended Rutgers University and graduated from St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH in 1960.
“A lifeguard on the Jersey Shore, he also stood watch at The Osprey, where he saved his future wife from an unwanted suitor,” family said in his obituary.
Ron spent his professional life as an advertising sales pro in New York City. In 1993, he founded JRD Associates where he worked until retirement.
“We plan to gather often to tell famous and perhaps some infamous stories about him,” family said.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, Rumson at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.
Ron is survived by: the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Carol (nee Sheik); son Ron Doran; daughter, Mimi Cahill and husband Andrew; daughter, Kim Eulner; and his beloved grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Caroline, Maggie, Jake and Rafe; in-laws, Bill & Patti Sheik, Jack & Deborah Sheik, Gloria and Alan Rowett, Patricia Doran, Jean Doran; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron was pre-deceased by: his parents, James and Helen Doran, brothers Bob, Jim & Bill, in-laws, Bill & Rita Sheik and son-in-law, Mark J. Eulner.
