In Memoriam: Longtime Rumsonite, Rumson High ’46 Grad, Louise Whitfield, 93

Longtime Rumsonite Louise S. Whitfield, also of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away Sunday, April 2, her son Ron at her side. She was 93.

“Louise was a 1946 graduate of (what was then) Rumson High School, where she was drum majorette of the marching band. She and Paul were married on Easter Sunday in 1948 and enjoyed over 71 years of married life … She was a great encouragement to many throughout her life, even in her last days.”

After graduating from Rumson High School in 1946, Louise married Paul Whitfield, of Eatontown. He passed away in 2019.

Louise was very active at Christ Church United Methodist where through the years she served as lay member to the annual conference, chair of the Administrative Council, financial secretary, and was a member of the church choir and bell choir for many years.

She was predeceased by: her husband, Paul; daughter, Catherine; daughter-in-law, Cynthia; father, George Schultz; mother, May Ether; stepfather, Elmer Ether; sister, Dorothy McAndrew; and brother, William Ether.

She is survived by: her daughter, Sarah, of Hampstead, MD; her son Ronald, of Rumson and N. Ft. Myers, FL; her son and daughter-in-law James and Robin, of Boynton Beach, FL; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Elizabeth Obermann and partner Bernard, Keany of Newport, VT; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 2, at 1 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 300 Ridge Rd, Fair Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to Adopt-a-Senior, or a charity of your choice.
