Longtime Fair Havenite and 32-year Fair Haven Fire Department social member, William F. “Bill” Mieth Jr., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 16. He was 83.
A 38-year Fair Haven resident, Bill was born in New York City to William F. Mieth, Sr. and Jean (Yorey) Mieth.
Often seen manning a booth at the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair, “Bill also enjoyed woodworking, scale model ship building, gardening, and his annual salmon fishing trip to upstate New York with his son and fellow fishermen.

“He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with the Fair Haven council and spent many years serving as an assistant Boy Scoutmaster, proudly mentoring alongside his son, Jim.
“Bill was employed in facilities management for JCPenney for over 25 years. Following his retirement, he continued his dedication to service by caring for the facilities at his longtime parish, The Church of the Nativity, where he worked for an additional 10 years.”
Bill was predeceased by: his baby sister, Carol Ann Mieth; his sister in law, Maryanne M. Lentini; and his brother in law, Frank Lentini.
He is survived by: his devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia D. (Mylott) Mieth; his loving son, James, and daughter-in-law. Patricia A. Mieth, of Fair Haven; and his sister, Patricia A. Cool and her husband, Clifford, of Frederick, MD; and his two nieces and nephew.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, April 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank.
A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to: The Church of the Nativity, Basic Needs Committee Fair Haven.
