In Memoriam: Longtime Area Dentist, Red Bank Resident, Dr. Walter King, 80

Longtime area dentist and Red Bank resident, Dr. Walter King, passed away on Oct. 1. He was 80.

Known as Doc King, he practiced dentistry for more than 50 years in both Little Silver and Holmdel, “making a tremendous and meaningful impact to our community. 

“Walter graduated from Red Bank High School and Temple University School of Dentistry, graduating a full year early. He served as treasurer of Periodontal Honor Society and was an active member of the Dentistry for Children and Diagnostic Honor societies. After graduation, Walter served as a full lieutenant dentist on a submarine tender named the U.S. Fulton based in New London, CT.  

“Walter met his life-long love, Coryn Jane Langley in high school. They married in 1967, spending a full life together until her passing after 40 years of marriage. 

“Walter spent his later years fulfilling his ‘beach-bum’ passion by spending every warm summer day at Sea Bright Public Beach.  Aside from the beach, Walt’s other devotion was being a parishioner at St. James Catholic Church in Red Bank. Walt was a fixture at 6:30 a.m. mass and could always be counted upon for the ‘weekly joke.'”

Walter is survived by: his sister, Linda Nelson; his son, David King and wife Melissa; his daughters Amanda and Laura King; and his grandson, Finn Eigenrauch.  

Family and friends are invited to visit on Fri., Oct. 4, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Sat., Oct., 5, 10 a.m., at St. James RC Church in Red Bank, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.
