In Memoriam: Former Longtime Red Bank, Little Silver Resident, Marie Murphy, 92

Former longtime Red Bank and Little Silver resident, Marie Murphy, more recently of Ocean Township, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 28. She was 92.

Born in Atlantic Highlands, Marie lived most of her life in Red Bank, Little Silver and Eatontown before moving to Ocean Township three years ago.

“She was a graduate of Red Bank High School and was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Red Bank. She retired from Monmouth Regional High School, Tinton Falls, as a financial secretary in 1994. After retirement, Marie was a hostess at the Olive Garden in Toms River for 14 years. Her love and devotion was to her family and especially the loves of her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

Marie was predeceased by: her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Sharon Jones; her granddaughter, Nicole Theresa Moore; her brother, Frank Castello; her sisters Anne McCue, who raised her, and Angela Fagan; her brother, Victor Castello and wife, Angie; her mother and father, Mary and Nicholas Castello; her niece, Maryann Burke, who was like a sister to her; her son-in-law, Kevin McLean; her nephew, Nick Castello; and her friend, Harry Stetzko.

She is survived by: her daughters, Carol Moore McLean and Lynn Alegre; sons-in-law, Charles Jones and Ex William Moore; her granddaughters, Laura and husband David Rowles, Tara and husband Ranga Reddy, Erica and husband Chris Loesch, Samantha and husband Chris Dowd; grandson, Wayne Alegre, Jr.; great-grandson, Shiva Reddy; great- granddaughter, Victoria Jones, Keagan, Adams and Dawsen Loesch; niece, Marge Genovese, who was like a sister to her; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  

Family and friends may visit on Thurs., Oct. 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Fri., Oct. 4 at 9:30 a.m. at The Oratory Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 124 Chestnut St., Red Bank. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ocean Township Police Explorers in Memory of Nicole Theresa Moore (mail checks payable to Ocean township Police Explorers to Sgt. Melody at Ocean Township Police Department, 399 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, NJ 07755; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
