Fair Haven Police: 2013 Alleged Burglar Nabbed; Locals Arrested on DWI, Marijuana, Hash Charges

The following January arrests and criminal incidents were reported by Fair Haven police. An arrest does not constitute a conviction.

Arrests

• Gregory Meletta, 37, of Newport, RI, was arrested on Jan. 30 by Patrolman Brooks Robinson and charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana.

He was processed and released pending a Fair Haven Municipal Court appearance.

• Nicholas Castellano, 21, of Rumson, was arrested on Jan. 17 and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) following a motor vehicle stop for speeding. Castellano was also issued summonses for refusal to submit to breath samples, reckless driving and speeding.

He was released pending a Subject was later released pending a Fair Haven Municipal Court appearance.

• Matthew Bavuso, 18, of Rumson, was arrested on Jan. 16 by Patrolman Brooks Robinson and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia following an investigation of a suspicious vehicle. During processing, Bavuso was also found to be in possession of hashish.

Bavuso was released pending a Fair Haven Municipal Court appearance.

• William Hoffman, 31, of Fair Haven, was arrested on Jan. 12 by Patrolman Brooks Robinson and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and hindering apprehension (destroying evidence) following a motor vehicle stop.

Hoffman was processed and released pending a Fair Haven Municipal Court appearance.

• Tommy Earls, 54, of Neptune, was charged with receiving stolen property in reference to a 2013 burglary at 516 Ridge Road. Earls was arrested in Rumson on Jan. 28 in connection with this and other area burglaries, according to police records.

Earls is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, on $25,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Detective Stephen Schneider was the Fair Haven investigating officer.

• Eric K. Damico, 20, of Rumson, was arrested on Jan. 1 by Patrolman Brooks Robinson and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a knife and underage possession of alcohol following a motor vehicle stop.

He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released pending a Fair Haven Municipal Court appearance.

Criminal Incidents

• An incident of damage done to a property on Hance Road property was reported on Jan. 1.

Patrolman William Lagrotteria took the report.

• Vehicle damage was reported by valet staff at a Fair Haven business on Jan. 1.

Patrolman Eric Patton took the report.

• There was a report of vandalism in the parking lot of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses on Jan. 3.

Patrolman Dwayne Reevey took the report.

• There was a report of vandalism to a vehicle on Locust Street on Jan. 3.

•  There was a report of vandalism in the street at the intersection of Smith and Forman streets on Jan. 3.
