A Sunday night transformer fire near the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge closed Ocean Avenue’s northbound lanes from the bridge to the Highlands Bridge for repairs.
And on Monday evening, the emergency construction and a water main break caused Ocean Avenue, north of Rumson Road to close in both directions, causing five to 10 minute delays as of 7:40 p.m., according to the state’s traffic update site, 511nj.
The transformer fire started after a loud boom was heard at about 9 p.m. on Sunday. The NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) reported at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday that Ocean Avenue, or Route 36, was closed due to the transformer fire.
As of 7:13 p.m., according to 511nj, the emergency electrical repairs from the fire were still being repaired and traffic was shifting between lanes with “caution.”
