They got hosed. It was a modern suburban scene that looked like a vintage city kids’ summer spree. But it wasn’t. It was just yesterday. And it was in a small town — Rumson.
Rumson Fire Company fire trucks pulled up to Victory Park on Thursday and gave the kids an impromptu wetdown. Who’s been hosed? Well, it didn’t really matter. All the kids seemed cooled down and playing along in the happy firehose showers.
There was a video on social media along with the photos from the fire company, topped with “It may not be 102 degrees out- but we are still keeping your children cool!!!” And the pictures and happy-go-lucky kid sounds were worth a few million words.
The words, however arranged, all spell out treasured moments in small town life.
Dan Kane, a Rumson-raised Fair Haven resident, fireman said it all in a few words — “Making nice Rumson memories for the kids. Great place to grow up.” Yes.
Have you thanked a volunteer firefighter for their thoughtfulness today?
If you haven’t already seen the photos from Rumson Fire Company, take a look.
