It was all about raising funds, having fun and fostering connections via an iconic Rumson spot and chef in the name of childhood cancer support.
Fundraisers affiliated with Childhood Cancer Society (CCS), a Monmouth County-based national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting families battling pediatric cancer, gathered back in early March at Red Horse Steakhouse by David Burke in Rumson, the former longtime Fromagerie, to partake in an night of of community and philanthropy via what has been dubbed Adventure Ted’s Social Club there.
“Adventure Ted’s Social Club was created with the idea that the best charitable events should first and foremost be fun, exciting, and bring great people together,” said Tommy Head, founder and CEO of Childhood Cancer Society. “Chef David Burke has been a dear friend and supporter of our work for over ten years, and I’m grateful to him and his team for crafting the Adventure Ted-Tini to help raise awareness and support for families facing pediatric cancer. While these gatherings are designed to be enjoyable and welcoming above all else, they naturally empower our mission by bringing together compassionate people who want to help make a difference.”
Adventure Ted, himself, is the superhero teddy bear mascot of Childhood Cancer Society (CCS), symbolizing hope, bravery, and adventure for children battling pediatric cancer. Through storytelling and community initiatives like the Adventure Ted Challenge — a national campaign that encourages individuals and organizations to take on personal challenges while raising funds — Adventure Ted helps bring financial and emotional support to families navigating childhood cancer.
The March event at Red Horse brought together supporters, community leaders, and advocates for an evening of dining, connection, and fundraising in support of those families facing childhood cancer. Through ticket sales, raffles, and community donations, the sold-out, full capacity event raised more than $20,000 to support Childhood Cancer Society’s programs.
A particularly memorable moment of the evening came during the 50/50 raffle, when Albert Soler, of Soler Salva LLP, won the drawing and chose to donate his entire winnings of $600 back to Childhood Cancer Society, which by all 50/50 standards, when donated back equals the actual $1,200 raised by the drive.
Guests enjoyed a vibrant social atmosphere and a curated dining experience hosted by Chef David Burke and the team at Red Horse who helped create the evening’s spirit of philanthropy. Burke was in attendance, hosting an exclusive meet-and-greet.
The event also marked the debut of the “Adventure Ted-tini,” a signature cocktail created by the expert mixologists at Red Horse. The drink was inspired by Burke’s desire to raise money and awareness for families battling pediatric cancer. The cocktail launch was made possible thanks to the generous support of event sponsors Asbury Park Distilling Co., D’arbo, and Luxardo.
“It was an honor to host the inaugural Adventure Ted’s Social Club at Red Horse Steakhouse and partner with Childhood Cancer Society for such a meaningful cause,” said Burke. “Tommy and I have been friends for over a decade, and I’ve had the privilege of watching the incredible work his team does for families facing pediatric cancer. We thought it would be fun to create something special together, so my team crafted the Adventure Ted-Tini — a cocktail that inspires adventure with every sip while helping raise awareness and support for an important mission. I’m excited to continue offering it at my restaurants so more people can enjoy it and support the cause.”
Burke did not mention what, exactly, is in the martini, but giving it a try and finding out offers some mystery imbibing to help the cause.
Funds raised from the evening will help Childhood Cancer Society continue providing direct support, uplifting experiences, and vital resources for families facing the challenges of childhood cancer.
