Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge Travel Advisory & Channel Clearance Alerts

The Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge replacement construction schedule remains status quo this week, with work scheduled from the usual 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., through Friday, weather permitting. Work on the navigational channel under the bridge has ensued, with clearance alerts for waterborne travelers on the Shrewsbury River.

Monmouth County officials advise …

Waterway travelers to maintain an awareness that:

  • As of Friday, Feb. 21, the horizontal clearance of the navigational channel under the bridge became 75 feet.
  • The channel opened completely for marine traffic on Saturday and will remain open until 6 a.m. on Monday morning with horizontal clearance of 75 feet.
  • As of 6 a.m. on Monday, only the western half of the channel is scheduled to be open for travel with horizontal clearance of 37.5 feet.
  • If wind conditions prohibited work on Saturday, the contingency plan will be as follows: The channel will be fully open in the late afternoon on Monday until Tuesday morning; and, as of Tuesday morning, only the western half of the channel will be open for travel with horizontal clearance of 37.5 feet.
  • Dates and times are subject to change based on weather conditions and production factors.
  • The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has jurisdiction over the navigational channel and has granted permission for full and partial closures the Contractor needs to install the two new bridge spans.
  • Please see the Public Notice Update for the list of anticipated full and partial closure dates through the spring of 2025. Monmouth County must comply with the dates approved by the USCG.

Roadway and sidewalk travelers maintain an awareness that:

  • Construction and delivery vehicles will continue to be entering and exiting the work areas on both sides of Rumson Road in Rumson and on the southbound side of Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.
  • Temporary delays are possible on any contractor work day due to movement of construction vehicles and equipment.
  • The south side (eastbound) sidewalk of the bridge is closed.
