The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s (RFH) Girls Soccer team is putting itself in someone else’s cleats.

The girls’ team has come a long way since the late 1970s, when one girl raised a ruckus by scoring a goal for girl athletes by using some fancy footwork to earn a spot on the boys’ team. Since 1984, there’s been a girls’ team at RFH and its a winning one in more ways than one — teamwork to score for one another and others.

Most recently, the team scored a 5-3 win over Trinity Hall. To cap off the win by offering others inch toward another sort of goal, the team counted and bagged 139 pairs of soccer cleats and shoes to be donated to Soles4Souls. The organization helps to create sustainable jobs for people while offering some help to walk any walk more comfortably, out of poverty and/or into success by distributing shoes and clothing worldwide.

RFH senior Ellen daly learned of the organization over the summer and approached Girls Soccer Coach Megan Heerwagen about organizing a collection in connection with one of the games. That happened with the RFH home game against Trinity on Sept. 21. The two teams teamed up to score the shoes for the cause.

After an exciting 5-3 win over Trinity Hall, members of the RFH Girls Varsity Soccer Team sorted, counted and bagged 139 pairs of soccer cleats and shoes collected for Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls helps to create sustainable jobs and provides relief through the distribution of shoes and clothing around the world.

Congratulations on both wins, RFH Girls Soccer!
