Three Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) student-athletes who excel in basketball have signed their National Letters of Intent.
Basketball stand-outs Devin Cooper, Jack Solano and Mikaela McGarvey officially signed to play with their chosen colleges on April 18 in the RFH Lower Library.
Devin Cooper will play basketball for Montclair State University.
“Devin was our star point guard who guided us to a 25-3 record, winning the A Central Division Title and the Group 2 Central State Championship,” RFH Boys Basketball Coach Chris Champeau said. “Devin led the team in assists and had numerous clutch baskets throughout the year, including game-clinching free throws to win the state championship. Devin was selected 3rd Team All-Division by Shore Sports Network.”
Jack Solano has committed to play at Stevenson University.
“Jack is a 2-time state champion who was Division Player of the Year as a junior,” Coach Champeau said. “Jack was an All-Shore Player and leading scorer as a junior, scoring 36 points in the state semi-final win against Manasquan – which led RFH to its first state championship in 43 years. Jack missed 14 games in his senior year due to an injury, but bounced back to make huge baskets down the stretch in leading RFH to back-to-back State Central Group 2 Championships.”
RFH senior guard Mikaela McGarvey, a four-year varsity basketball player and the team caption this year, will play at Muhlenberg College.
“Mikaela was a starter as a junior, and one of the top defensive players in the Shore Conference,” RFH Girls Basketball Coach Dave Callahan said. “Mikaela was also an excellent offensive player, averaging 6 points per game. After tearing her ACL at a showcase event this past summer, Mikaela worked tirelessly after her surgery, determined to make it back to play in meaningful games during her final year. She defied all expectations and saw the floor for 7 games this season, averaging 10.6 points per game. In the state tournament, Mikaela averaged 13.3 points on 12 three-point shots made. Mikaela was an inspiration and role model to all the younger girls basketball players in the RFH community. She will be missed!”
