RFH Achieves Gold AP Honor Roll Status

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) has made the honor roll.

The College Board announced that RFH has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning a Gold distinction.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools in which AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening participation. Schools can earn this distinction annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

RFH won the recognition because of its 73 percent of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school, 68 percent of seniors who scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 19 percent of seniors who took five or more AP exams.

RFH fosters college readiness by offering 25 AP courses across several study disciplines: Art, English, Mathematics, Music, Social Studies, Social Sciences, Science, and World Languages. Last year, more than 49 percent of the student body was enrolled in a minimum of one AP course, and more than 30 percent of the teaching staff instruct in AP-level courses.

“AP allows students to engage with college-level work, earn college credit and placement, and build professional career skills they can use no matter what path they choose after high school,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “Congratulations to this year’s AP School Honor Roll recipients for proving it’s possible to expand participation in these rigorous courses and still drive strong performance.”

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies by providing the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both while still in high school. Through AP courses in 40 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue — critical college preparatory skills.

“We are extremely proud of the work of our teachers and students in content acquisition, critical thinking, writing, and a myriad of other skills to ensure that our students are ready to thrive in college and beyond. Advanced Placement is an important part of our overall instructional program, and we are continually working to improve learning and skill-development as well as increase opportunities for our students.”

Next year, RFH will add a new AP course to its program of studies by offering and running AP Business with Personal Finance in its inaugural year through College Board.

To complement the Advanced Placement program, RFH also offers its students multiple dual enrollment opportunities in English, Math and World Languages with three New Jersey colleges and universities and promotes college and career readiness through a Career Institute that students can attend to interact with professionals across fields, hone interests and passions and build mentoring and networking opportunities.
