It’s a time for trophies and oldies. This weekend marks the 18th annual Fair Haven Fire Department Fire Police & Auxiliary Car Show.
With the show, which is relatively new for oldies in town, comes some revving up for shiny trophies. Shiny cars. Shiny trucks. Shiny trophies. Hopefully, the sun will shine as well for this favorite free townie fest.
And awards ceremonies on the firehouse grounds are an old-time tradition, as fire companies go.
So, the Retro Pic(s) of the Day, takes a look back at a day of trophy bestowing and fun at the Fair Haven firehouse probably back in the 1970s.
These photos were donated by longtime fire company member Jim Butler. He’s not sure what the occasion was, but he knew there were trophies involved. It looks like a familiar scenario — similar to the car show. A wetdown, perhaps? Parade aftermath? The back of one of the guys’ shirts says Oceanport. Hmmmm.
There are lots of familiar smiling faces in this shot, including former FHFD Fire Police Captain Bill Van Develde — yeah, my dad. Recognize anyone else?
