A reprise, because, in this weather, there’s no business like snow business …
Snow days due to the recent pandemic time snow-in bring back memories of winters way past. RFHers of yesteryear always found some simple fun pretty fast when the school bell didn’t ring and the fire horn signaled no school.
So, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day takes us back to one of those days of simple fun on some Rumson slopes — or something like that.
When the snow fell in the Rumson-Fair Haven area, RFH students were always out snowboarding, sledding, skiing and, well, doing just about anything that seemed right to get down a snow-packed hill. It’s a time-honored tradition, and, ironically, usually a masked one, at that — albeit masked to shield from the elements rather than COVID.
When it snowed, RFHers were out … and about … and up and down hills. They usually ventured to Tower Hill in Red Bank, Third Street in Fair Haven or Holmdel Park. But, sometimes, there were hidden sleighing gems in Rumson.
RFH grad and yearbook photographer George Day captured this scene in the 1970s.
We don’t know who these guys dotting the hill are, but people could probably hazard a very good guess.
Where they’re sleighing? Rumson? Do you know? Where do you go to for that simple sledding or snowboarding adventure?
Many thanks, again, to the fabulous George Day for this pic!
