Well, March has arrived, and baseball season will soon be sliding into its RFH home base. The RFH calendar, in fact shows that the there are two home varsity games on the calendar for March 10.
So, it stands to reason that the Retro Pic of the (George) Day should take a closer look back, from another vantage point, of a 1970s RFH game — the dugout.
It’s a closer look at the guys suited up, at bat and on the bench in our recent ode to RFH baseball. The boys are looking quite pensive in this photo. There are a few familiar faces — one sadly no longer with us, some still around the towns and one who was the batter in our most recent look back.
The one who passed away, but, until then, spent most of his life in Fair Haven. That’s Jeff Lang (back row, left), affectionately referred to by his cohorts at RFH as Bang Bang Lang.
Known as an easy going, good-natured, compassionate friend, volunteer and neighbor, Jeff Lang is sorely missed. In addition to being an RFH Class of 1978 alumni, he was also a longtime member of the Fair Haven Fire Department, serving as captain of its First Aid Squad in 1997.
Then there’s that batter, Bill Dooley. Last we saw Bill, he was marching in the Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Recognize anyone else? There are a couple pictured who many still see around the towns. What do you think they were looking at?
Thanks, once again, to George Day for capturing yet another classic moment at RFH!
