The R-FH Area Weekend: Tavernfest, Car Show, Harvestfest, Haunted Theater, Lantern Tour

Rumson-Fair Haven area folks are falling for the spirit of the fall season like kids to a pile of leaves. And the weekend leaves no option but to partake in or at least toss around some activity options. There are many.

Here’s what’s going on in the area this weekend:

Starting with Friday night …

• There’s a Tavernfest at Allen House in Shrewsbury from 7 to 10 p.m.. The historic haunt is the historic setting for the Monmouth County Historical Association’s eve of “tavern spirits, music and fare!”

• And Brookdale Performing Arts Center’s Haunted Theater aptly kicks off for the season at 7 p.m. at a the college’s campus and continues Saturday and Sunday.

• Get a little haunting, hike and history in with the Lantern Tour of the World War II Harbor Defense on Sandy Hook from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the Hook.

Historians in uniform will guide people on a Friday the 13th tour of the Fort Hancock gun batteries and more.

On Saturday …

• NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO SUNDAY, same time, same place …

Start the day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Fair Haven Fire Department Fire Police & Auxiliary and its 18th annual Car Show. Antiques, classics, street rods and muscle cars aplenty will be on display. There will be music and trophies.

All are welcome to peruse the cars on grounds of the firehouse on River Road and do a little socializing. It’s free.

• Another way to kick start a Saturday is with an educational walk through Fair Haven Fields Natural Area at 9 a.m..

It’s free. Attendees meet in the parking area and take a guided walk at an easy pace and learn about the wildlife and plants that make the area their home.

• A bit later, starting at noon and continuing ’til 4 p.m., the annual Fair Haven PTA Harvestfest is open to all in the Knollwood School parking lot with the usual games, arts and crafts, petting zoo and more.
