A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a late December Middletown bank robbery, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Monday.
Miguel A. Angeles, of Perth Amboy, has been charged with first-degree armed robbery.
At 10:43 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, Middletown police were dispatched to the Valley Bank on Route 35 south between Twin Brooks Avenue and Woodland Drive on a report of an alarm activation. Upon arrival, police were informed that a masked man had entered the bank and stolen close to $8,000 before fleeing the scene.
A joint investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Middletown Township Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ultimately led to the arrest and charging of Angeles. He remains in custody pending a detention hearing currently scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in Monmouth County Superior Court.
This case has been assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Cummings of the Major Crimes Bureau. Information on Angeles’s legal representation was not immediately available. Convictions on charges of this nature are commonly punishable by terms of 10 to 20 years in state prison, subject to New Jersey’s No Early Release Act (NERA), which mandates that 85 percent of certain terms be served prior to the possibility of parole.
