Prosecutor: Fatal Thanksgiving Weekend Accidents Under Investigation

Two fatal Saturday evening accidents, in Howell and West Long Branch, that left a pedestrian and a bicyclist dead, are now under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Sunday.

In Howell …

Just before 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, Howell police responded to the area of Route 9 and Strickland Road on a report of a traffic incident involving a pedestrian.

There, they found the victim, a 71-year-old Howell man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the involved vehicle, a 58-year-old Howell man, who was driving a 2016 Honda CR-V, remained on the scene.

In West Long Branch …

A little more than an hour later, shortly after 9 p.m., West Long Branch police responded to the area of Route 36 and Monmouth Road on a report of a traffic incident involving a bicycle.

There, they found the victim, a 55-year-old male Long Branch resident, who was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the involved vehicle, an 18-year-old Tinton Falls man, who was driving a 2018 Range Rover, remained on the scene.

Investigations involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Howell Township and West Long Branch police departments remain active.
