Prosecutor: Couple Charged with Endangerment in Toddler Opioid Overdose

A Monmouth County couple has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after their toddler overdosed on alleged opioids in the family home, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Wednesday.

Sharek White, 46, and Alexis Mistretta, 37, both of Wall Township, were charged with one count of the second-degree charge in connection with the overdose incident. Both are being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) in Freehold pending a detention hearing on Oct. 24.

The case background …

On Monday night, Oct. 17, Wall Township police were called to a residence on the 1100 block of 17thAvenue for a suspected overdose. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive nearly 2-year-old toddler, with lifesaving efforts already in progress.

The efforts continued as the child was rushed to a local hospital, where she is now alert and being monitored. The child is believed to have been playing with items that had been exposed to opioid narcotics.

The case is a joint investigation with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wall Township Police Department.
