Prosecutor: Area Man Pleads Guilty to Murder Trial Witness Retaliation, Weapon Possession

An area 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty trying to intimidate a witness who testified in a 2024 murder trial and unlawful possession of a weapon, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Thursday.

On Tuesday, before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley, Jaisun Z. Brown pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree witness retaliation and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun) related to a separate charge from Oct. 1, 2025.

An investigation involving members of the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau revealed that the alleged criminal conduct by Brown began in April of 2025, at the conclusion of the sentencing of a defendant for a 2022 murder before Monmouth County Presiding Criminal Superior Court Judge Jill Grace O’Malley.

After additional investigation, authorities found multiple communications by Brown directed towards or publicly referencing the witness and their role in the homicide trial, that were either threatening or suggestively violent in nature.

Sentencing for Brown is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 15. The state intends to seek a term of five years in state prison for witness retaliation, and three years, with one year of parole ineligibility, on the weapons charge.
