Prosecutor: Area Board of Ed Member and Crossing Guard Charged with Child Porn

An area Board of Education member and a crossing guard has been charged with the possession of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

William L. Shaffer, 47, of Farmingdale, which is where he serves on the Board and as a crossing guard, has been charged with one count of third-degree possession of child sexual abuse materials.

An investigation into the alleged related incidents was initiated in September 2024 by the MCPO High Tech Bureau’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, after receiving a National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTip from a cloud-based software company. The investigation determined that Shaffer was viewing and in possession of the child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).

Shaffer was arrested this morning by members of the MCPO High Tech Bureau and Search Warrant Execution Team (SWET).

Anyone with further information about this matter is being asked to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Anthony Lacher at 800-533-7443.
