Prosecutor: 29-Year-Old Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges in February Shooting

An area man charged in connection with a February Asbury Park shooting has been found and arrested, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey announced on Tuesday.

Stephon Keys, 29, of Neptune Township, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder and several related weapons offenses.

If convicted, Keys could face up to 20 years in state prison.

The case background …

Minutes after midnight on Sunday, Feb. 27, Asbury Park police responded to the Washington Village housing complex on the 1300 block of Washington Avenue on a report of a shooting.

There they found an adult male victim who was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of injuries deemed not to be life-threatening.

An investigation by members of the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department resulted in Keys being identified as a suspect, and charges against him were filed last week.

He was apprehended with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service without incident this morning. He is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) pending an initial appearance and detention hearing to take place in Monmouth County Superior Court.

Anyone with any information about this case is still urged to please contact MCPO Detective Brian Migliorisi at 800-533-7443 or APPD Detective Terrance McGhee at 732-774-1300.
