In Memorium: Longtime Fair Havenite Sheila Haese, 73

Longtime Fair Havenite Sheila Egan Haese passed away at Riverview Medical Center on April 25 from multiple medical complications and cancer. She was 73.

Born in 1946, Sheila lived with her family in Little Silver until her marriage to Craig Haese in 1971, when they began their longtime residency in Fair Haven, where both lived out their lives.

“Because Craig was a proud Fair Haven fireman, Sheila often assisted the Ladies’ Auxiliary on the food preparation for the annual fair. Her adult passions were her many friends at the firehouse, The Sitting Duck, and The Pour House, her caring neighbors and her many cats, the last of whom are Sassy and Sadie. She loved hearing and telling great stories and was a supporter of many animal charities.”

Loved ones of Sheila Haese in her obituary

Sheila is remembered as a neighbor with a great love and appreciation of Fair Haven and the people around her.

“It’s with great sadness and such a heavy heart that both Boris and I have to say goodbye to our dear friend and neighbor Sheila Haese! Both Sheila and her husband Craig were our first neighbors and friends when we moved into this great neighborhood 40 years ago! Helping us move in, helping us strip 50-year-old wallpaper from our living room walls, watching our family grow and joyously loving our extremely noisy Jack Russells and just being the best neighbors ever we were so blessed! May they both rest peacefully together knowing that they were truly loved and will be soo… missed.”

“She loved her neighborhood and she would have loved this,” said Sheila’s cousin, Mary McCue, in the neighborhood Facebook thread.

“They really were the best kind of neighbors,” Katy Badt Frissora added. “Our block is so blessed with the depth of love from neighbors like Sheila and Craig.” She suggested that as a memorial tribute, people leave flowers, “a little memento,” from their neighborhood gardens on the front steps of the Haese’s home.

“l pray that Craig led the choir of ? angels , singing their favorite songs and they held hands and maybe even danced all the way to their HOME TOGETHER for eternity,” said longtime neighbor Rett Kastner. “Rest peacefully, Craig and Sheila, knowing that your earthly work has been completed and your names will always be spoken with a smile and love ? as you watch over all you loved and your neighborhood.”

During Sheila’s youth, she was an avid tennis player, swimmer, sailor, and enjoyed drawing. At Red Bank High School, her alma mater, she was a member of the twirling squad and the art club.

She is predeceased by: her husband, Craig, who died a few months ago in December of 2019; her parents, John Egan and Anne Hasler Egan.

Of special note are her dear friends she is survived by: Nessa (Bunny) Morse; Mary (Boo) Christian; her cousin, Laury Egan; and her devoted physician, Dr. Elizabeth Gredell, who made her last days easier.
