Former Rumson and Little Silver resident Barbara Jean McCarthy, of Red Bank, passed away on Nov. 25 at Jersey Shore Medical Center. She was 85.
Barbara was a parishioner at the Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven. She was also a member of the Navesink Country Club and the Monmouth University Women’s Alumni Association.
Born March 1, 1935, in Bridgeport, CT to the late Walter William and Eula Marie (Smith) Osborn, Barbara graduated from Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport and earned a associate’s degree from the University of Bridgeport. Barbara married her husband Joseph Plath McCarthy, Jr. on Sept. 7, 1957, and settled in Little Silver and Rumson to raise their family.
She later earned a BA in Education from Monmouth College.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Plath McCarthy, Jr., her three loving sons, Joseph Plath McCarthy, III of Seattle WA, Kevin Michael McCarthy of Leesburg, VA and Brian Arthur McCarthy of Stuttgart, Germany, her cherished grandchildren, Grace Mercedes (McCarthy) Uomoto, Brendan Thomas McCarthy, Michael Patrick McCarthy, Nora Dunham McCarthy, Zoe Jessica McCarthy, Maxine Sophia McCarthy and William Kevin McCarthy, and her great grandchildren, Ezra and Paloma Uomoto.
A private entombment will be held at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the John E. Day Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Barbara’s memory to the Collier Services Foundation.
