Yes, the new Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge is complete. It’s been functional for months now. Still, there are some finishing touches on and around the bridge continuing.
There are improvements underway to Jumping Point Park by the bridge in the West Park section of Rumson next to the bridge. Monmouth County awarded $367,817 in funds from its Municipal Open Space Grant Program for the park improvements.
And pieces of the old bridge are still being broken down and transported to Sandy Hook for repurposing as a fishing reef.
As for the bridge and sidewalk work, construction continues weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, except today, Presidents’ Day.
Here’s what’s happening Tuesday through Friday, according to Monmouth County officials’ release …
Roadway and Sidewalk Information
- Delays are possible due to construction activities.
- Construction vehicles will continue to enter and exit the work areas on Rumson Road in Rumson and on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.
- The sidewalk on the north side of the bridge is still closed.
Waterway Information
- The horizontal clearance for the navigational channel under the bridge will be 65 feet.
Dates are subject to change based on weather conditions.
The US Coast Guard (USCG) has jurisdiction over the navigational channel. To facilitate the demolition of the old bridge, USCG has granted permission for width reductions and partial closures of the channel for the duration of the demolition activities. Monmouth County must comply with instructions from USCG.
