There’s been some change in names and faces in and around Fair Haven Borough Hall.
The biggest change comes from the office of the tax collector.
With the recent announcement of 38-year tax collector Dale Connor’s retirement, effective May 1, came the appointment of the borough’s new tax collector, Denise Jawidzik.
Jawidzik is a “New Jersey Certified Tax Collector, with numerous years of experience,” the resolution for the appointment read.
While the appointment was sanctioned at the May 23 council meeting, Jawidzik it is effective April 2, Connor’s last day in the office on the job, though her official end date is May 1.
Connor is a lifetime Fair Haven resident who is a longtime member of the Fair Haven Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She said the following on her last day in a Facebook post:
“Today is a bittersweet day, after 38 years working for the Borough of Fair Haven I am retiring, my retirement date is really May 1, 2015, but today is my last day working there.
I have loved working for the Mayor and Council and all the residents of this wonderful borough. I have made some great friends thru the years, I would meet residents children then grandchildren, they would meet my children, and then my grandchildren. I will miss working with my co workers, Mary, Melissa, Nancy and Allyson, My Police Department(love you guys), the library ladies Donna, Annette, and Kate, my administrator Theresa and all the Public Works guys.
I am starting a new chapter in my life, I am going to be the manager of Shrewsbury River Yacht Club. Wish me luck. Loved my job with Fair Haven so much and will miss it so much, feeling sad today.”
A full feature story on Connor’s time working for the borough will follow. Stand by.
Jawidzik’s appointment was made for “the unexpired statutory term expiring December 31, 2015 at a salary of $10,000.”
In Public Works, new laborer Shaun Spinello’s standard probationary period has ended and he was appointed a permanent full-time position in the department, via resolution on March 23, effective March 24.
Spinello’s salary is $39,503.
In the legal department (not literally), Edward Eastman was appointed as special legal counsel to the borough for 2015 at the March 23 council meeting.
According to the appointment resolution, “Eastman has completed and submitted a Business Entity Disclosure Certification which certifies that he has not made any reportable contributions to a political or candidate committee in the previous one year and that the contract will prohibit him from making any reportable contributions throughout the term of the contract.”
Funds for the special counsel work “will be appropriated in the 2015 Municipal Budget,” according to the resolution.
