County Sheriff’s Office: Drone Situation Monitored; FBI Tip Lines Opened

With the onslaught of drone sightings throughout the state, including an apparent heavy concentration in Monmouth County, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement with an FBI tip phone line and online reporting system calling for interagency cooperation.

No known intent or origin of the oversized drones stated, Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said in a released statement, “It is essential that we address these incidents swiftly to prevent any concerns or disruptions. We are aware of the unease these drone sightings have caused in our communities. The safety and security of our residents are our top priorities. We urge state and federal authorities to work together in locating the source of these drones and determining their intent. ”

That collaborative effort includes the public, Golden said, in reporting “relevant information” and sightings and understanding the difference between a usual and unusual drone. Those cited have been larger than the usual personal drone.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and partners in local and federal law enforcement are actively monitoring the situation, Golden reiterated, while also repeating what the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said — that they don’t appear to be a threat to public safety. However, the release added, “additional tools are needed at the state level to identify the source, as well as more transparency federally, regarding drone operations over critical infrastructure and sensitive areas.”

While the situation is being monitored by authorities, anyone with relevant information can call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submit it online at tips.fbi.gov.
