It’s been an ongoing crime in the Rumson-Fair Haven area and it hit Fair Haven again yesterday — a car theft.
With that, Fair Haven Police Chief Joe McGovern alerted residents, via a circulated letter, that the theft occurred on Wednesday, July 31, in the early morning hours. The chief, in his letter, went on to say that the perpetrator gained access to the vehicle via a garage door opener that they had found in and taken from another unlocked vehicle that was in the driveway.
The chief, in his letter, did not disclose the residence’s street from which the car was stolen.
He, again, issued a warning that has been repeatedly shared by him and other area authorities. The crux of it is the same residents have heard before: lock cars; remove key fobs from vehicle and secure them; and hide and/or remove garage door openers from open areas.
