Yes, we are in the throes of winter and its big chill. After some snow and rain, the sun came out today and made the cold sting just a little brighter.
With that first little bit of white stuff in a flurry around the Rumson-Fair Haven area, our minds might be transported in time to RFH days when there was a small group of enthusiasts that loved the snow and took to the slopes regularly — the now defunct RFH Ski Club.
Back in the day, some RFH students preferred to literally chill outside the Senior Commons rather than inside. To them, those cool dudes, it was the perfect setting for a little pow-wow. Maybe the discussion was heated, though, right? Looks like it could have been. It is the season of reorganizations, after all. And with that dusting of snow, what better time than to chill and get that cool dudes’ hierarchy settled. Ahem …

The following Retro Pic of the Day was originally published on Jan. 4 2016. In honor of the Rumson Fire Department reorganization of the new year, we are offering a look back at the reorg of 1965:
As tradition goes in the Rumson-Fair Haven area, New Year’s Day is the day of swearing line officers in to the respective fire companies.

Merry Christmas, Rumson and Fair Havenites! Cherish your day, make those memories and hold on tight to them. One day they will be your best Christmas present.

A classic reprise, just because … it’s Santa time!
Santa has begun making the rounds around the towns lately. You’ve likely seen him being whisked through the Rumson and Fair Haven neighborhoods on the firetruck over the weekend. It’s that time of the year.

By Elaine Van Develde

All RFH concerts have singers and players — of the Tower variety.
