Call it a teaching moment. It was the moment that three retired iconic Fair Haven teachers who kept a close friendship going for years were reunited after a long COVID-19 quarantine time.
Those teachers are Eileen Kubaitis, Bonnie Crotty and Pat Egan. All had long careers in the Fair Haven Schools system and touched the lives of many youngsters over generations. These three even taught some of their students’ children.
It was Kubaitis and Crotty who went to see Egan after a year apart.
“So after over one year of not being able to hug this friend and fellow teacher, the tears wouldn’t stop,” Kubaitis said in a Facebook post that was followed by a flood of teacher love comments. “Love you Pat Egan.”
Most remember Kubaitis as that informative health teacher. I, for one, never forgot her talk about amniocentesis. I have no idea why that stuck with me, but it did, among other things.
Crotty was a favorite fourth grade teacher to many.
And Egan is often remembered as an innovative geography teacher who taught students to memorize the world map and introduced national and international culture in an unforgettable way.
