A tsunami of a rally, spearheaded by Clean Ocean Action environmentalists, against the proposed methane gas pipeline 23.4 miles off the shores of the ocean took place on March 25.
Many, including elected officials, environmentalists and area residents, gathered by the water they are trying to protect in Atlantic Highlands. The message, or demand, as Clean Ocean Action leaders put it: NJ “Governor Sherrill and the Tidelands Resource Council, you must SAY NO to the NESE pipeline!”
The background from Clean Ocean Action, founded by RFH graduate Cindy Zipf, decades-long executive director:
“This proposed 23.4-mile offshore methane gas pipeline would bring zero energy to New Jersey while putting our air, water, marine life, and public health at risk. It would lock our region into decades of fossil fuel dependence and threaten critical habitats in the Raritan Bay and beyond.
“All of this harm to New Jersey for a New York fossil fuel project! The final decision is approaching and the window to act is closing. The Tidelands Resource Council and Governor Sherrill have the power to stop this project.
“Make your voice heard at the April 1 virtual Tidelands Resource council meeting.”
