A sure sign that summer is on the cusp is when the now traditional weekly Sandy Hook concerts start. And they start on Wednesday.
This year’s series, that runs from June to August at Beach Area E in the Gateway National Recreation Area unit, is being kicked off by The Nerds. The concerts, sponsored by the non-profit Sandy Hook Foundation, begin at 6 p.m. and are free to the public.
The foundation’s website says that cancellations of any of the concerts due to bad weather are made by 2 p.m. on the day of the concert.
Cancellations are also posted on the website; or, for more information call 732-291-7733.
After Wednesday’s performance of The Nerds, the concert schedule is as follows:
• June 22, The Weeklings;
• June 29, Matt O’Ree Band;
• July 6, Tim McLoone & the Shirleys;
• July 13, Bob Bandiera Band;
• July 20, Sensational Soul Cruisers;

• August 3, Rain Date;
• August 10, Rip Tide
(with special guests The Sam Sims Band, 5:30 start);
