Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) students recently took the NJ Coast IEEE Robot Challenge and won third place.
Seven teams, 28 students, from RFH competed in the May 2 challenge at Brookdale Community College with Team Starlords taking the third place out of 40 teams from 15 New Jersey high schools.
Each team was required to build a robot using a kit. The teams were judged on their robots’ performance in a race, and also on oral and written reports.
The goal of the yearly competition is to make students aware of the requirements and workplace challenges facing today’s professional engineers.
“All of the students did a great job and really came through for RFH,” Science Teacher and Scientific Frontier Club advisor Jonathan Pennetti said. “We look forward to participating again next year!”
Third-place finisher Team Starlords was comprised of seniors JC Liang, David Mancuso and Liam Packer.
Also competing were: Team Bro-Bot — Sheridan Camarata, Lindsey Corydon, and Colin Courchesne; Team IBCERN – Charlie Barnes, Tristan Kilper, Arnold Muralt and Connor Placer; Team Mystery Gang – Leigh Forsyth, Jenny Greener and Helena Van Hemmen; Team Pirates – Land Barnum and Tommy Lenskold; Team Star Fox – Paddy Ahimovic, Bram Bruno, Christian Capanelli and Jack Padovano; and Team Transformers – Reed DiCenso, John Phelan, Jack Rallo and Matt Ramirez.
