With the start of the school year and a rev-up of the RFH Surf Team beaching it and catching waves, we’re taking another a close-up and personal reprise look at that ’70s RFH crew of surfer boys catching cool waves (or beaching it) and sitting on top o’ the Sea Bright world. Most of these guys are actually still friends.
Sometimes you just have to listen to those Beach Boys, go with the chill, catch a wave and sit on top of the world in your world on a Sea Bright beach. That’s what these guys did back in the 70s. Yes, you’ve seen them before, but those close-up smiles will toast the cold right outta your weary pandemic winter heart. We all need that now.
Going back, this retro RFH crew caught many a wave in all kinds of weather. In fact, they were known for literally chilling out at Sea Bright beach with a board whenever the opportunity arose — and that was often.
It’s safe to say that these surfing dudes of the RFH Class of ’78 didn’t care to bother to wait to shed the down vests for wet suits. These guys spent plenty of summer days together. But, they usually didn’t wait for the seasons to change to catch that wave and lots of good times.
So, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day is a tribute to friendship of all seasons and, yes, high school friends surfing into all seasons together.
You know them. You’ve seen them before. Can you name these guys? There’s another iconic photo of them that features something that would probably not be allowed in the yearbook these days. Do you know what it was?
Many thanks, once again, to the fabulous George Day for this photo!
