Well, the soggy state of the area lately has been drying up and making way for some falling for fall activity — or not falling. In the last Retro Pic of the Day, we offered a glimpse back into RFH skateboarders doing some impressive balancing acts on the boards on an area street. Yes, it was Sycamore.

Turns out it was a weekly (or more) occurrence at the hands and boards of a few RFH pals.

These guys were quite adventurous and carefree back in the day, or these days in the 1970s. No one was complaining about the lack of helmets (though their moms probably cringed a bit) or calling the cops on the alternative sports “hoodlums.”

As far as we can recall, the most “harmful” thing they did was skate through a neighborhood without a worry and eat pizza at Briody’s (note the t-shirt). One in this photo is still in the area and still always game for a harmless adventure. Another, A.J. Bruder, is, regrettably gone.

So, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day today, once again, honors the memory of RFH Class of 1978 grad A.J. Bruder, who passed away around this time in 1996 at 36. It also pays homage to good times never forgotten among RFH friends whose bond remains.
