A reprise from 2019 as an ode to the dismal weather. Cheers and sun up!
The weather has not been quite fair these days. In fact, it’s been downright dank. And with dreary weather comes a little bit of a lackadaisical mood — especially for students cooped up in a high school all day. But, back in the day, there was a remedy for what ailed RFH students when lazy, hazy days drenched with dismal weather set in. That colored brick and pillar remedy was the Junior Lounge.
Yes, back in the 1970s and even 80s, there was a lounge for juniors — and seniors. Hey, the seniors even had their own building. Ahhhh, RFH youth.
Yes, if you had a free or lunch time, an RFH junior could head over to the Junior Lounge to, well, lounge and hopefully not make any mischief. But, who’s telling on anyone decades later anyway?
So, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day captures the essence of typical Junior Lounge lounging on a dank day. After all, there was a courtyard for nice days and if you were a good enough student, on a free period you could roam wherever your little RFH soul wanted to wander as long as you returned for class.
These juniors were just doing some typical chilling as others made their way to class. Or were they concocting some sort of mischief. Spit ball? Straw wrapper worm? Paper airplane? What else could an RFH junior with some time to spare do? Study?
Recognize these guys and girls in the background? Remember exactly where the Junior Lounge was?
— Many thanks, once again to the incredible George Day for capturing this moment in RFH time!
