When the stinging wintry chill pierces the air, the time is right for a reprise from last winter to remind RFHers on a dank day and impending COVID gloomy winter that they always have warm Senior Commons memories. Of course, that all depends on what you remember. Here’s something to think about … These guys made sure that they and those around them were anything but bored. Hmmmm …
What’s an RFH student to do when the studying mood hasn’t struck and the weather stinks? Hang out in the Senior Commons and play backgammon, of course. Or something like that.
Well, that’s how it was in the late 1970s anyway. Unless, of course, the looks of this picture are deceiving. And that’s entirely likely.
These pretty popular dudes of the RFH Class of ’78 epitomized the mood of the mod schedule, if you get our drift.
They were clearly bored, focused on God knows what, mesmerized or just plain up to no good. Intentions were innocent and gainfully gamey, judging by the backgammon on the table — or was it camouflage for the true sport practiced in the lounge, or commons as some called it.
Remember how popular that little game was back in the day? But how much play did it actually get at RFH, especially in the ol’ lounge?
Remember how to play? And what, exactly, is in the hands of these little RFH pranksters? Hmmmm. Something there looks a bit suspicious. Could it have been suspension-worthy or is it a fake?
If you knew these guys, you’d know. Recognize them? And, anyone remember how to play backgammon?
Thanks, once again, to the incomparable George Day for this gem!
