In anticipation of the return of the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair, we take a look back again at a game of chance, its history and families that spin together.
Most often, working at the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair is a longtime family affair.
So, the Retro Pic of the Day today is an ode to just that, in addition to featuring those behind the booths.
In this shot, lifetime Fair Havenite Tom Kirman, son of longtime fire company members Tom and Mary, is working what is referred to as the Big Six booth (or tent, as it really is) with none other than a member of the family’s next generation, his daughter Rebecca, at the 2014 fair.
The booth involves a spin for cash now. Back in the day, like the 70s, it was a place where people chanced a spin on the wheel for cartons of cigarettes as prizes.
Hmmmm. Smoking isn’t even allowed in public places in Fair Haven anymore.
Do you remember what the most popular brand of cigarettes was in the 1960s and 70s?
Pick a brand, any brand, and spin, Tom!
