Two men have been indicted on murder and weapons charges in connection with a 2022 fatal shooting, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Monday.
Kedrick Chatmon, 37, of Keansburg, and Lamare R. Walker, 45, of Barnegat, were both indicted on one count each of first-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit murder in relation to the murder of 39-year-old Marques Mills, of Neptune Township. Chatmon was also indicted on various weapons offenses as well.
Neptune Township police responded to a report of a shooting shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at the intersection of Hillview Drive and Edgemere Road. Officers later found Mills inside a vehicle in the driveway at his home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
A joint investigation involving members of the Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau and the Neptune Township Police Department resulted in Chatmon and Walker being identified as the people responsible.
Both Chatmon and Walker were found and arrested on Thursday, Nov. 21. Chatmon was arrested in Keansburg and Walker in Barnegat. Both Chatmon and Walker were apprehended by members of the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau, the Neptune Township Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
The two were transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI), where they both remain incarcerated pending detention hearings at Monmouth County Superior Court on Tuesday, Dec. 3, before the Honorable Jill G. O’Malley.
