The cause of a pedestrian being struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Sunday is currently under investigation, Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday.
In Hazlet on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7:49 p.m., Hazlet police responded to the intersection of Route 36 and Union Avenue on a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was traveling southbound in the right lane on Route 36. As he approached the intersection near Union Avenue, he hit a female pedestrian.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m.
The driver remained on scene.
No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Hazlet Township Police Department remains active and ongoing.
