Prosecutor: Pedestrian Killed in Motor Vehicle Accident; Investigation Ensues

The cause of a pedestrian being struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Sunday is currently under investigation, Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday.

In Hazlet on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7:49 p.m., Hazlet police responded to the intersection of Route 36 and Union Avenue on a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was traveling southbound in the right lane on Route 36. As he approached the intersection near Union Avenue, he hit a female pedestrian.  

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m.

The driver remained on scene.

No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time.
