Authorities are investigating a Monday evening Freehold Township accident in which a pedestrian was killed, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Tuesday.
Shortly after 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, Freehold Township police responded to the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 9 between County Route 522 and state Route 33 on a report of a serious collision.
Upon arrival, they found the victim, a 35-year-old male resident of Freehold Township. The driver of the vehicle that struck him, a 55-year-old Lakewood man who was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry, remained on the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department ensued and is ongoing.
No criminal charges or traffic summonses have been filed in connection with this matter as of yet.
