Prosecutor: Fatal Accident that Killed Pedestrian Under Investigation

A Friday accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Wednesday.

On Friday, March 27 at 7:18 a.m., Eatontown police responded to the area of Route 35 and the jug handle at Monmouth Mall.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was operating a 2019 Honda Insight traveling southbound on Route 35 when the collision with an adult male walking from the eastbound side of the roadway occurred.

The pedestrian, later identified as Edwin Chavez-Solis, 22, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m..

The driver of the Honda Insight was uninjured and remained on scene.

No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Eatontown Police Department remains active and ongoing.
