Prosecutor: Discovery of Dead Bodies in Monmouth Beach Poses ‘No Cause for Alarm’

Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office authorities have alerted people in the Monmouth Beach area that the finding of two dead bodies in the Channel Club Marina poses “no cause for alarm,” a released statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.

After police responded to a 12:35 p.m. call on Friday about one dead body discovered in the water in the marina area, or 33 West Street, they found that the body was that of a man located near the end of a dock, a the release said.

Authorities from the Prosecutor’s Office were notified and responded to the scene, as is standard protocol with an unattended death, it added.

Early into the investigation of the male, another body, a female, was found in the water in the same vicinity. The names of the man and woman were released by the Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday evening. They were: John J. LoBello, 59, of Toms River; and Debrah Hollen (Lappin), 51, of Eatontown.

The Prosecutor’s Office and the Monmouth Beach Police Department were assisted by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and the New Jersey State Police.

The cause of death for both individuals is pending autopsy results. The autopsies were scheduled for Saturday morning at the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office, the prosecutor said.

In the meantime, authorities have advised that the investigation thus far has revealed that the discovery of the bodies poses no cause for alarm in the area.

“The deaths do not appear to be suspicious but that determination is pending the results of a toxicological report from the medical examiner,” the Saturday release from the Prosecutor’s Office said.

More information will be added when it becomes available. The investigation is ongoing.
